A Holiday and New Year's Greeting from Secretary Martinez

Friday, December 27, 2002

I'm pleased to send my best wishes for a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year to every HUD employee, our partners and clients, and to all of your families and loved ones. This has been a year of recovery and renewal for our nation. We entered 2002 uncertain about the months ahead, but as December comes to an end and we look forward to the new year of 2003, America is strong and united.

Throughout the past year, the men and women of HUD have been critically important. You have helped move the country forward, and I am proud of all of you. Together, we are making communities stronger and offering families new opportunities to prosper. Millions of Americans will begin the new year of 2003 in ways that would not have been possible without the strong helping hand offered by the HUD family and our partners throughout the nation. Thank you for your compassion and commitment.

President Bush has clearly demonstrated his belief that the Department is doing important work. In the new year ahead, as in 2002, we will have no stronger supporter of our mission - lifting up families through homeownership, helping local businesses create good-paying jobs, and creating opportunities and new possibilities for America's communities - than President George W. Bush.

Today, the blessings of family and country are foremost in our thoughts. As the war against terrorism continues, I ask that you keep the men and women of the military in your prayers.

2003 is going to be a great year at HUD - and I am glad that you are part of our family and part of our team. Continue your good work, keep up your commitment, and please accept my best wishes for a safe and blessed holiday season, and a very Happy New Year.
