Nationally recognized R&B group Tekneek entertained participants at Housing Fair sponsored by Birmingham Field Office and 98.7 KISS FM.

On June 24, 2006, the Birmingham Field Office partnered with the Birmingham Homeownership Center, New South Federal Savings Bank and urban contemporary radio station 98.7 KISS FM to promote homeownership. The event was organized by the hosts of the public affairs program Talkback, that airs on 98.7 KISS FM from ten to midnight on Sunday nights, and was held at the Bourbon Street Grill on Richard Arrington Boulevard. In addition to having presentations on various aspects of homeownership the event featured one on one consultations with lenders, housing counselors and HUD staff. An estimated fifteen persons went through individual consultations of thirty minutes or more in which the path to homeownership was explained in detail, and contact numbers for agencies that could be of assistance were provided. One participating lender noted that in spite of the relatively small turnout, he left the program with five applications for mortgage assistance from potential first time homebuyers. In conjunction with the homeownership fair, 98.7 presented housing information in a special edition of Talkback that was tied to this event. Via this broadcast tens of thousands of potential minority first time homebuyers received information on programs that could assist them, and on ways to avoid becoming victimized by predatory lenders. At the conclusion of the housing fair a Cajun lunch menu was available for participants to enjoy along with the sounds of Birmingham's own hot R&B and contemporary jazz band, Tekneek. Tekneek Musical Director, Kevin Benion noted that the motivation for his band to give up a Saturday morning to support the event was their desire to support efforts to make homeownership possible for more people in the community. Jefferson County Commissioner Shelia Smoot dropped in for a part of the homeownership fair, and suggested that it be repeated with the support of her office. The Director of the Homeownership Center called after the fair to say that phone traffic at the Center increased tremendously in the week following the fair and the live broadcast on 98.7.
