Mr. Sutton said that the 1988 Fair Housing Act amendment expanded the act to include families with children and the disabled. It also gave government agencies the power to take those who discriminate to court, impose fines, and give redress to the victims.
In one year the office has worked with the Mayor's Disability Council to raise awareness about the law concerning people with disabilities and helped several people who have called with race and religion discrimination and fair housing complaints.
