FY 1998 SuperNOFAs

Video Broadcast Schedule for
Supernofas 1, 2, 3, and
National Competition Programs

On Tuesday, April 14th, 1998 HUD began offering videos of the SuperNOFA training sessions to the Internet community via "webcasts." There were several ways to receive the HUD training broadcasts:

  1. You could visit a training location in your area. Some of these locations were HUD offices, while others were part of the Housing Television Network (HTVN). All training locations were free.
  2. You could call in to special telephone numbers that provide an audio-only version of the broadcast during the specified broadcast time. For all SuperNOFA broadcasts, the phone number was 1-888-618-8003.
  3. You could view live simulcasts or archived broadcasts in streaming video over the web. Streaming web video required a special video player (RealPlayer). After you installed the player, you could follow a link for streaming web video.
  4. You could receive our satellite signal.
  5. You could order a video tape of completed broadcasts from the SuperNOFA Clearinghouse. For more information, call 1-800-HUD-8929.

The SuperNOFA is part of HUD's sweeping management reforms underway within HUD's 2020 Management Reform. The program will include presentations from the Department's Principal Staff, who will provide an overview of each program included in this SuperNOFA.

This program will describe the application requirements for funding under this $50,000,000 program, which has an application deadline of June 1, 1998. Using a call-in format, viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions of a technical expert panel.

This program will provide an overview of the SuperNOFA for Housing and Community Development Programs. While targeted to Empowerment Zones and Enterprise Communities, the material covered will be of interest to any group that may be interested in finding out about the SuperNOFA.

This program will describe the application requirements for funding under the Fair Housing Initiatives Program: Education and Outreach Initiative ($1,000,000), the Private Enforcement Initiative ($9,300,000), the Fair Housing Organizations Initiative ($1, 200,000), and the Single Family Housing Counseling Program ($18,000,000). Deadline for applications is June, 1, 1998. Using a call-in format, viewers will have an opportunity to ask questions of a technical expert panel.

EDI and BEDI programs are required to be used in conjunction with Community Development Block Grant Section 108 Loan commitments. This broadcast will describe application requirements for Economic Development Initiative Grants ($38,000,000) and Brownfields Economic Development Initiative Grants ($25,000,000) under Section 108(q) of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended. Callers will be able to ask questions from a panel of experts.

This program will describe program requirements for the Outreach and Training Grants (OTAG) and Intermediary Technical Assistance Grants under HUD's Mark-To-Market Program. Viewers will be able to learn program requirements, application submission requirements and funding availability under each of these programs. 1:30 PM - 5:00 PM Continuum of Care and Housing for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Programs Application Walk-Through

The Continuum of Care is a community-based process that provides a comprehensive response to the different needs of homeless individuals and families. It is designed to serve the specific needs of homeless sub-populations within a community and serves as framework for delivery of services among various providers. The HOPWA program provides housing assistance and supportive services for persons with AIDS. Housing for persons with AIDS may be subpopulation of the Continuum of Care. In both programs, communities are encouraged to develop community-wide strategies and to form partnerships with area non-profits to provide housing assistance and supportive services to eligible populations. This broadcast will the requirements and rating factors for award under both of these Programs. This program includes a live call-in session with a panel of experts.

This program will describe the new local component of the lead hazard control program awareness campaign. Grants ranging between $20,000 -$700,000 will be available to eligible applicants. Program requirements, application submission requirements and funding availability will be discussed in this broadcast.

Tenant Opportunity Program/Economic Development and Supportive Services (TOP/EDSS) Introductory Overview

This program will introduce potential applicants to the application requirements for the Public Housing Tenant Opportunity Program including Economic Self-Sufficiency Grants ($10,900,000) Organizational Development Grants ($3,000,000) and Mediation Grants ($3,000,000) and the Economic Development and Supportive Services Program ($49,692,510). Viewers will be able to call-in and ask questions of a panel of experts.

1:30 PM - 3:30 PM National Competition NOFAs

The National Competition NOFA announces 3 new nationwide initiatives: Fair Housing National Education and Outreach; Housing Counseling National Training Program and National Lead Hazard Awareness Campaign. This broadcast will describe the application requirements for these programs. Using a call-in format, viewers will have an opportunity to ask questions of a technical expert panel.

This program will describe program requirements under the Youthbuild program. Youthbuild provides training opportunities for youth to learn the building and construction trade while continuing their high school education. This broadcast will be a follow-up to the introductory broadcast on these programs. Approximately $402,397,000 is available for the Section 202 Supportive housing for the Elderly Program and approximately $ 74,373,000 is available under the Section 811 Program of Supportive services for the Disabled.
