Best Practices 1999

Building a Better Tomorrow

April 15, 1999

Dear Colleague:

I am pleased to invite you to Building a Better Tomorrow, HUD's 1999 Best Practices and Technical Assistance Symposium. It will be held from July 20-24, 1999 at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

This symposium brings together HUD industry partners, along with participants from federal, state and local governments, universities, community-based nonprofit organizations, faith based groups and other agencies and citizens to recognize "Best Practices" throughout the United States. Our "Blue Ribbon" Best Practices Awards are the Academy Awards of our industry, so I hope you will take this chance to hear how the award recipients accomplished their goals.

By attending this symposium, you will have opportunities to interact with others who are creating the highest quality housing and community development programs in the country. As you listen to keynote speakers, attend workshops, mix and mingle with other participants, you will hear new ideas, get advice, share information, and benefit from the experiences of people who are making significant changes in their communities.

In addition, there will be specialized technical assistance for many programs including: consolidated planning, continuum of care, Housing and FHA programs, and an update on the implementation of the Quality Housing and Work Responsibility Act with guidance on Public Housing Agency Plan implementation (including deconcentration strategies).

The exhibit hall will provide an exceptional forum to communicate with other partners, public interest groups, and Federal agencies in creating opportunities to market Housing and FHA programs as well as other programs beneficial to communities. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.

I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Andrew Cuomo
