Community Builders Add a New Twist
to National Home Ownership Week 1999
From June 5th through 12th, hundreds of communities
across the country will host events to highlight the importance of homeownership.
This years theme, "Make the American Dream a Reality" is
designed to increase the visibility of community-building efforts and develop
and reinforce local partnerships hard at work throughout the country.
From homebuyer fairs, seminars and workshops
to official proclamations and open houses, National Home Ownership Week
reaches out to thousands of American families -- giving them the information
and inspiration they need to help achieve their dream of homeownership.
And no group benefits more from having a place
to call home than our kids. Thats why Community Builders have worked
with HUDs Office of Housing to develop the first National Home Ownership
Week Poster Contest. Through the poster design contest, children across
the country will have the chance to express themselves and their ideas about
what "home" means to them.
National Homeownership partners will serve
as judges for the contest. Posters will be judged at the national level
and in ten regions across the country. The national winner will have his
or her artwork displayed on next year's poster. Other prizes include savings
bonds and certificates. Winners will have their artwork displayed on HUD's
Kids Next Door website.
Boys and Girls Clubs of America, YMCA, YWCA,
4-H, Big Brothers Big Sisters, faith-based youth groups, and educational
organizations are making plans for local Homeownership Week Poster Contests
with their youth. For more information, or to obtain a Homeownership Week
Poster Contest Rules Sheet, visit HUDs website at http://www.hud.gov/kidsctst.html. Visitors will also find complete information about participating in other
