Reaching the Dream -- Training

In order to reach as many potential first-time homebuyers as possible, FBCOs across the country must receive quality homeownership education. To this end, CFBCI has engaged experienced home-buyer education trainers to work with FBCOs in each of the five Reaching the Dream cities - Albuquerque, Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville, and Portland -over a two-day period in the winter and spring of 2004. While the training will focus on homeownership services, it will be tailored to the unique needs of each of these cities. The curriculum will include topics such as Understanding Credit, Financing Your Home, Buying Your First Home, and Understanding the Closing.

The purpose of the training is to empower FBCOs to:

  • Learn about necessary qualifications and standards to work with HUD or HUD affiliates in serving the target population
  • Obtain essential information about key partners and potential sources of State and local government financial support in the areas of homeownership and public housing
  • Understand HUD and other Federal programs, as well as the solicitation processes, time lines, and requirements associated with HUD and other Federal programs for which they are eligible
