Opera Host Organization - New York, NY

Host Organization:

New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) provides decent and affordable housing in a safe and secure living environment for low and moderate- income residents throughout the five boroughs. As New York City's largest landlord, NYCHA is well-known for providing high-quality low-cost apartments. However, you might not know about the programs and services offered by NYCHA, which go far beyond housing to enrich the lives of residents and offer opportunities. NYCHA works to enhance the quality of life of its residents by offering opportunities to participate in a multitude of community, educational and recreational programs, as well as job readiness and training initiatives. NYCHA's Community Centers and Senior Centers serve as a hub for most of our recreational, cultural and educational programs.

NYCHA, in partnership with the New York City Opera will host the following events:

  • Introduction to La Boh�me NYCHA will host "Introduction to La Boh�me" at the Rutgers Community Center in Manhattan, New York for public housing students. A staff teaching artist, from the New York City Opera, will educate youth from public housing about the story of La Boh�me and facilitate a discussion on career opportunities in the field of Opera.
  • NYCHA and New York Opera will host the HUD-WNO simulcast presentation of La Boh�me on Sunday, September 23, 2007 2:00 PM (EST) at the Rutgers Community Center. Immediately following the simulcast, a staff teaching artist, from the New York Opera, will field questions related to the performance and wide variety of careers required to present an Opera performance.

New York City Opera was founded in 1943 to provide financially accessible opera performances to a wide audience-opera that would reflect the company's commitment to innovative repertory choices and the development of American opera.
