Project Homeless Connect in Mobile: One stop for integral services

Homeless persons living in Mobile, Alabama, had the opportunity of receiving health screenings, applications for housing and haircuts, during Project Homeless Connect.

On January 27, 2016, more than 300 homeless persons living in Mobile were able to find under one roof an array of services that usually need going to different areas of the city. Project Homeless Connect was a one-day event held at Mobile Fairground with opportunities to apply for housing, go through significant health screenings, apply for employment with one of the 15 participating local employers and even obtain drivers licenses.

Participants also had access to judicial relief from a Municipal Court Judge, could talk to a sheriff, and even get a hair-cut. The event was sponsored by Housing First, the homeless Continuum of Care Provider for Mobile and Baldwin counties.

Eric Jefferson, Executive Director of Housing First, indicated this is their fourth year doing Project Homeless Connect, and their third at the same location. It is well received by the community and the participants express their gratitude for the services and difference they make in their lives.
