Housing America 2007

Monette Mayor Chub Qualls signed a proclamation Tuesday, March 20, declaring March 26-April 9 "Housing America 2007" in the city. On hand for the signing was Barbara Suber, Monette Housing Authority executive director and senior vice president of Arkansas Chapter of National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).

"Housing Authorities across America hold a national campaign each year to educate and inform the public and decision makers of the critical need to address the nation's housing and community development concerns," Suber said. "The city has always worked with us to address affordable housing and community development needs. Through a joint effort of local, state and federal resources, we have been able to meet specific goals, objectives and purposes of providing affordable development needs in our community."

"The city has always partnered with the Housing Authority to meet the needs of our citizens," Qualls said. "The MHA is able to provide housing, for those who need it, they can afford. It is a safe place to live, and we can take pride in that." "Housing has provided a decent home and a suitable living environment for our residents," Suber said. "We believe this is a critical objective that can only be met through an unwavering federal commitment to fill in the gaps created by limits of federal assistance. Providing housing takes dedicated and mission-driven not-for-profit community effort."

"High quality housing is pivotal in our society-beyond providing basic shelter, it positively impacts the economy and improves the quality of our community," she said. "We want to raise public awareness about the availability of affordable and safe housing here in Monette."
