Little Rock Metropolitan Housing Alliance Kicks Off Phase One of $70 Million RAD "Redevelopment in the Rock" Conversion

The Metropolitan Housing Alliance (MHA) in Little Rock held a Phase One Ribbon-Cutting on February 22 to kick off "Redevelopment in the Rock," its $70 million RAD conversion program that will renovate and update three of the housing authority's complexes. The event was held at Fred Parris, a 40-year old, 14-story public housing complex near downtown.

In her speech at the event, HUD Little Rock Field Office Director Wanda Merritt complimented MHA, its Board and partners for their success, saying, "RAD is a central part of HUD's rental housing preservation strategy. The renovations and upgrades that residents will enjoy under this RAD conversion are a direct result of the great partnership we have with MHA and that MHA has forged with its partner and developer, Gorman & Company. They have done an outstanding job that will benefit their residents and the city for many years."

The renovations at Fred Parris towers will include structural and cosmetic improvements that will make the 600 units safer and more energy-efficient.

In Arkansas, ten public housing authorities have, or are currently participating in, RAD. When completed, nearly 3,000 units will be converted.
