Celebrating African American Heritage,
Commemorating National Homeownership Month

In a joint partnership effort with Fannie Mae, VA, the Tucson Urban League, and local mortgage lenders and realtors, HUD staff participated in the "Juneteenth" celebration on June 14 and 15, 2002. The festivities celebrated African American heritage, as well as commemorated National Homeownership Month.

Sharon Atwell, HUD Tucson Field Office Director, along with Elisa de la Vara, Fannie Mae's Partnership Office Director in Arizona, and Richard Elias, Pima County Supervisor, joined Cress Landers of the Tucson Urban League and Congressman Jim Kolbe in celebrating Juneteenth and speaking on the theme of "Helping Tucson Achieve the American Dream of Homeownership."

The celebration took place at Kennedy Park. Pima County Homeownership Partners took turns staffing the booths; materials on homeownership and FHEO issues were handed out to hundreds of attendees.
