Deputy Secretary Jackson Promotes Homeownership
at U.S. Conference of Mayors Conference

Deputy Secretary Alphonso Jackson's address to the nation's mayors at the U. S. Conference of Mayors highlighted President Bush's and Secretary Martinez's initiatives to expand Homeownership opportunities for minorities as well as end Chronic Homelessness within ten years. “Homeownership brings pride to the community. People take care of their own property when they know its theirs, said Jackson.

The 71st Annual U. S. Conference of Mayor's and the 2nd Annual International Conference of Mayors attracted over 1200 attendees. Deputy Secretary Jackson stopped by the HUD information booth to talk with local staff and visiting mayors.

In addition to the Deputy Secretary, Phillip Mangano, Director, Interagency Council on Homelessness, addressed mayors and encouraged adoption of a resolution supporting an end to chronic homelessness. On the final day of the conference, U.S. mayors adopted a resolution encouraging cities to develop 10-year plans to end homelessness.
