HUD, DOT AND EPA AWARD $4.5 MILLION FOR SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES IN COLORADO
Unprecedented joint funding to foster integrated approach to housing, jobs and transportation
On Wednesday, October 20th, three federal grants were announced by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter and government officials that will provide more than $4 million for projects in Colorado, which will be used to help fund improvements
to the neighborhoods of Five Points, Fawler, Rifle and Monte Vista, Colorado. The goals of this initiative include the renovation of historic buildings, improvements to infrastructure and further emphasizing energy efficiency.
Additionally, the grant money will be used by the city of Denver for housing and transportation projects along the light-rail line going to Golden and cleanup of properties along the South Platte River and in Aurora.
The announcement was made by HUD Regional Administrator, Rick M. Garcia, EPA Regional Administrator Jim Martin and FTA Regional Administrator Terry Rosapep. This announcement represents an unprecedented collaboration
among three federal agencies, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
