The Hartford Field Office conducted a free two-day grant writing training session for faith-based and community groups on February 12-13 at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Hartford. The session was one of over 80 held across the country. Attendance totaled 56 persons with representatives from religious and community organizations, local and state government, private individuals and housing authorities. Organizational experience ranged from emerging to advanced.

Training included Organizational Development, Legal Do's & Don'ts, Five Factors for Awards, The Art & Science of Grant Writing, and the review of a successful HUD grant application. Training was provided to help level the playing field so that faith-based and community groups have a better chance of obtaining federal funds to help carry out their crucial missions.

Attendees rated the session as highly successful, commenting "This was the best grant writing training I have ever attended" and "I've been to other grant writing workshops-all of which were very disappointing. This one was excellent."
