Neighborhood Housing Services of New Britain (NHSNB) wants to make sure that families keep their homes - in more ways than one. This HUD-approved housing counseling agency knows that for the average person, home repairs can be costly.

To address this issue, this forward thinking agency offers a post-purchase workshop. The workshop teaches the basic steps to keeping and maintaining a home. Staff conducts two-hour sessions designed to teach homeowners how to complete basic repairs around their homes. One topic is covered during each session, and attendees get hands-on experience by practicing with actual tools and equipment.

Some of the workshop topics are Fixing a Leaky Faucet, Repairing a Defective Toilet, Learning Basic Electricity and Repairing Walls with Sheetrock or Plaster. The classes are free!!! If you are interested, contact them to find out when the next workshop will be held.

NHSNB offers programs to help families in all stages of home ownership, through:

  • Home purchase and rehabilitation programs
  • Homebuyer education
  • Financial fitness and counseling
  • Home maintenance workshops

The agency also has served as a key player in New Britain by building affordable housing and rehabilitating homes for resale. Visit NHSNB's website (http://www.nhsnb.org/) to learn more about its programs.
