The Diamond State Community Land Trust (http://diamondstateclt.org) (CLT) is helping Delawareans become homeowners. Dan is a retired military veteran who spent most of his life overseas. When he came back to Delaware, he wanted a home that was located within walking distance to stores, and banks, and offered easy access to public transportation. Diamond State CLT had a home available, in Dover, which fit every criterion on his list. It also fit his budget and he successfully purchased the home in April.

Diamond State CLT used the City of Dover's Neighborhood Stabilization Program (www.nspdelaware.org/dover.html) (NSP) funds to make Dan's dream of homeownership a reality. HUD operates the program which provides grants to states, and local governments, for the purchase and redevelopment of foreclosed and abandoned homes and residential properties. That allows people like Dan to have an opportunity to become homeowners. NSP is a component of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program which is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
