HUD's Section 3 Program requires that entities receiving federal funds make their best effort to train and hire low-income residents and contractors of the area where the funds are being used.

Representatives from Central Florida grantees, elected officials, and community leaders, met with the HUD team on August 1, 2019 for a training on the Section 3 Program, information on available funding for healthy homes and lead reduction initiatives, and an update on general HUD programs.

The group also met Lisa Hill, HUD's new Community Planning and Development Director for Central and North Florida. Alesia Scott-Ford, HUD's Field Office Director for the area led the conversation, and Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Director Charles President conducted the Section 3 training.

The training was hosted by the Orlando Housing Authority. The lively session, which allowed for exchanges of ideas and best practices, plus recommendations on how HUD can improve business, included employees from the City of Orlando and Orange County Housing and Community Development Departments, Housing Authority officials, Section 3 coordinators, and participants, plus contracting companies and community partners.
