On April 22, 2003, the Housing Authority of Fulton County (HAFC) celebrated success! Ms. Patricia Farley became the first public housing resident in the State of Georgia to buy a home using a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher. Among those gathering to recognize her achievement are pictured with her above, from left to right: Archie Hill, Director of the Atlanta FannieMae Partnership Office; Brian E. Noyes, HUD Regional Director; U. S. Representative David Scott; Fulton County Commissioner Bill Edwards; and in the background, Dan Rogers, Deputy Director of HUD's Atlanta Homeownership Center. After Ms. Farley expressed her deep appreciation and thanks to everyone who helped turn her dream into reality, the HAFC presented her with gifts for her new home.

As of June 2003, approximately 12 Georgia residents have achieved homeownership through the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. Some public housing agencies offer homeownership vouchers, allowing qualifying voucher holders to purchase a home.

Learn more about homeownership vouchers and contact the public housing agency in your area to see if this program is available and can help you, too.
