Senior leaders of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Region IV, Atlanta, Georgia met with regional interagency partners from EPA and DOT to synchronize efforts in concert with the recently approved and unprecedented agreement to jointly work towards sustainable communities. The Regional Interagency Partnership arranged for a presentation and subsequent tour of the proposed Atlanta Beltline Project recently which provided a unique opportunity for attendees to learn from the City of Atlanta and Atlanta Beltline, Inc. efforts "to shape the way Atlanta will mature as a great city, by creating parks, trails, transit and new development along a 22-mile loop of historic rail lines that encircle the urban core."

"We are extremely pleased to note the presence and participation of our interagency partners in reviewing and developing strategies along with us concerning sustainable communities. The information about the Atlanta Beltline Project and tour also provided a unique insight into the vast nature of the transformative Atlanta project," said Mr. Donnie Murray, Acting Deputy Regional HUD Director. The key elements of the Atlanta Beltline Project envisioned are 1300 new acres of park, 22 mile loop of transit and transportation infrastructure, 33 miles of walking trails, affordable workforce housing, historic preservation, environmental clean-up and streetscapes and public art. Those interested in learning more about the interagency partnership for sustainable communities.
