In Gwinnett County, Georgia, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-R) investment under the Recovery Act is constructing a Senior Service Center building, on a 6.4 acre Gwinnett County, owned site at 567 Swanson Drive, Lawrenceville, Georgia. The building is already designed, and will house health services and nutrition programs for elderly persons, which will be operated by Gwinnett County's Senior Services, programs of the Gwinnett County Department of Community Services.

The building construction is being carried out in two phases, with CDBG-R funds, used for Phase I construction. CDBG-R funds are being used for Phase I which consist of 7,942 square feet. Phase II will allow the building to be expanded by 12,009 square feet utilizing other funding sources. Total Phase 1 construction cost will be $1,430,000 which includes $1,008,736 CDBG-R funds and $421,264 CDBG Entitlement Funds. All CDBG-R funds have been obligated and 22 percent of the funds have been expended.

Project will house programs serving the elderly including health care and nutrition. The project will redevelop a site formerly used for as a driver license examination center. The Gwinnett County Senior Service Center is designed as a LEED Silver building to maximize energy savings. The project will consolidate staff from three separate locations into one facility which will result in increasing efficiency of operations, greater energy savings, and reduced transportation time and costs which will help reduce carbon emissions and ease traffic congestion.

The County has projected this investment will retain 105 jobs and created new 3 jobs. The building is currently under construction.
