Affordable Housing Conference Continues Momentum of Hope and Learning

On February 13, 2013 as HUD Southeast Regional Administrator Ed Jennings, Jr., welcomed and applauded the achievements of the Georgia Southeastern Affordable Housing Management Association's (SAHMA) in front of over 350 member owners and managers of affordable multifamily housing Jennings's voice elevated with emotion and with conviction conveying his deep appreciation and thanks for their efforts to actively help their residents.

"I continue to be amazed and appreciative of SAHMA, this conference and the essential information provided here that at the end of the day will help you do your jobs much better and in turn help the residents...we mutually serve continue to have affordable housing and hope," said Jennings, Jr.

George C. Caruso, SAHMA President (www.sahma.org/) added SAHMA appreciates the strong relationship with HUD and are very pleased to have Regional Administrator Jennings speak to our group as he energizes attendees with his heartfelt words of encouragement. Caruso also recognized the achievements of SAHMA members and residential youth who competed and won SAHMA state-wide art contests.

Ruben Brooks, HUD Director, Atlanta Multifamily Hub, Office of Multifamily Housing stated that the SAHMA meeting attendees were eager to hear Mr. Jennings' comments reassuring the attendees that indeed the Obama Administration and the HUD leadership are dedicated to the continuation and success of the affordable housing programs and meeting the housing needs of our most vulnerable citizens.

The Georgia 2013 SAHMA Conference was entitled Be; Extraordinary. Its purpose was to provide current information and updates on compliance issues and regulatory requirements for Georgia Owners, Agents, Managers and Maintenance Professionals of Multifamily Affordable Housing communities throughout the state and also recognize the achievements of property managers and residents as extraordinary.

The three day working conference held in Atlanta highlighted, in very specific breakout sessions lead by subject matter experts, such topics as IRS Compliance, Fair Housing Compliance, Tax Credits, REAC for Maintenance, Reasonable Accommodations and HUD Compliance to just name of few.
