HUD and Federal Partners Work with Mayors at National Conference of Black Mayors

HUD and federal partners from EPA (www.epa.gov), HHS (www.hhs.gov) and USDA (www.usda.gov) came together in Atlanta recently as part of the federal partners' panel to provide an overview of their programs and answer questions from the over two hundred mayors from all across the US and overseas during the National Conference of Black Mayors (http://ncbm.org/) 39th Annual Convention.

City of Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson (www.cityofsacramento.org/mayor/) served as the moderator and guided the discussions with federal partners and mayors on tangible and measureable efforts to provide assistance to their respective communities.

"Working with mayors throughout the US in this federal partners panel as part of the National Conference of Black Mayors provided a forum for addressing and responding to the concerns of leaders of their respective cities," said Ed Jennings, Jr. HUD Southeast Regional Administrator. "It further demonstrates the Obama Administration's commitment of federal agency collaboration to assist cities and local communities."

The convention was attended by over 700 attendees ranging from NCBM mayoral members, local and statewide elected officials, Congressional leaders, federal department representatives, foreign dignitaries, international delegations, civic leaders, corporate representatives, educators, entrepreneurs, community organizers, youth and academics.

The convention addressed issues such as job creation, housing, health, sustainability, green technology, international trade, good governance and ethics, broadband and more.
