Recently, HUD Southeast Regional Administrator Ed Jennings, Jr. accompanied Congressman Sanford Bishop (GA-02) (bishop.house.gov/) in an effort to help middle Georgians achieve the American Dream of homeownership.

Jennings joined Congressman Bishop, Cynthia Harrison, Georgia Department of Community Affairs HomeSafe Program and Pat Boisclair, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Middle Georgia, Inc., at a community-wide Home Help Resource Fair on the Macon campus of Central Georgia Technical College.

"Many families are struggling to pay their mortgage and are unsure of what to do next," said Congressman Sanford Bishop. "Events like this Home Help Resource Fair are indispensable because they help individuals and families find resources for their housing situations and answer questions regarding their home ownership."

"Homeownership and homeownership preservation go hand in hand. This fair provides homeowners and potential homeowners with services to assist them in making good choices about buying a home and how to keep it once it is purchased," said Jennings.

The Home Help Resource Fair assisted potential homebuyers and current homeowners with various homeownership resources. HUD representatives were on hand as well to answer questions and provide handouts about homeownership and FHA as well as homeownership preservation. Attendees were able to access a variety of homeownership related resources from other onsite programs and vendors.

Such resources included personal credit report analyses, budgeting seminars, and information on qualification for the "HomeSafe Georgia" program (www.homesafegeorgia.com/) (a statewide temporary mortgage payment assistance program.) Representatives from several local credit unions and banks were also available to talk to participants about home financing needs.
