HUD Southeast Regional Administrator Ed Jennings, Jr. and HHS Region IV Regional Director Dr. Pamela Roshell recently announced in Atlanta to over 75 real estate professionals a kickoff campaign initiative with the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) to build greater awareness of the benefits of the Affordable Care Act among its membership and to work to meet the March 31, 2014 enrollment deadline. City of Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Fulton County Commissioner John Eaves joined in along with Jeffrey Hicks, NAREB 2nd Vice President; and Stacey Mollison, President of local NAREB affiliate and host Empire Board Realtists.

"This effort with our federal partner HHS and NAREB will help small business real estate owners be more aware of what the Affordable Care Act may be able to provide them in affordable care and in turn help their business grow," said HUD SE Regional Administrator Ed Jennings, Jr.

Thaddaus Dawson, a member of the Empire Board of Realtists gave his testimony of the benefits of the Affordable Care Act as he related, "Since enrolling my health insurance payments have gone from $985 a month to $370 a month, a savings of $615 a month. This is a significant savings for me being a self-employed real estate professional. I am very thankful for the Affordable Care Act."

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act. The law puts in place comprehensive health insurance reforms that will roll out over four years and beyond. The Affordable Care Act puts consumers back in charge of their health care. Under the law, a new "Patient's Bill of Rights" gives the American people the stability and flexibility they need to make informed choices about their health.

The National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) was formed in 1947 by chartered African American real estate professionals out of a need to secure the right to equal housing opportunities, regardless of race, creed, or color. For more than 60 years, NAREB has participated in meaningful legal challenges and has supported legislative initiatives that ensure the availability of fair and affordable housing for all Americans.
