Region IV Attends 2014 HUBZone Small Business Summit

Region IV Regional Administrator Ed Jennings, Jr. was the co-keynote speaker at the 2014 national HUBZone Small Business Summit in Atlanta, GA recently as more than 350 business professionals registered for this free one-day educational and networking conference for HUBZone and other small businesses. The purpose of the summit was to inform small businesses about the HUBZone and to increase business opportunities through networking with prime contractors and other federal agencies. The event featured one-on-one business match-making meetings between representatives of approximately 15 federal agencies and 18 prime contractors.

Attendees also heard from Javoyne Hicks White, Chief of Staff for EPA and Mark Crowley with the HUBZone Council. Other HUD attendees were Business Utilization Development Specialists Arnette McGill-Moore and Meishoma Hayes from the HUD Headquarters Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) and Contract Specialists Kristin Frantz and Shaina Washington from the Office of the Chief Procurement Office, Atlanta Operations Branch.

Jennings complimented those in attendance for taking advantage of the opportunity presented by the conference, and he stressed the importance of HUBZone businesses making themselves known to government agencies.

Washington commented later that, "The HUBZone Small Business Summit was an outstanding opportunity for HUD to help HUBZone-certified and other small companies maximize their success through awesome matchmaking opportunities that helped potential vendors understand what contracting opportunities HUD offers.

HUD's potential procurement portfolio encompasses a vast array of interests, from larger IT requirements to smaller procurements for items such as office furniture."
