Recently, Michael German of the HUD Georgia Field Office participated in the Urban Waters Federal Partnership meeting as he along with other federal, state, city and local partners addressed the disinvestment in the area, illegal dumping and other environmental concerns and health hazards in west Atlanta watershed of Proctor Creek.

"The ongoing revitalization efforts of the federal partnership which also includes state, city and local stakeholders bodes well for the progress being made to address the environmental challenges and opportunities of Proctor Creek and the surrounding community," said German. "As a member of the partnership, HUD is committed to this very worthwhile effort."

The Proctor Creek watershed, which is part of the Chattahoochee River, is approximately 16 square miles with 127,418 people living in the area. It is facing many environmental challenges. Protecting and revitalizing urban waters does not only improve the public's health but also improves communities by enhancing its appearance and increasing property values.

The intent of the partnership is to reconnect urban communities, particularly those that are overburdened or economically distressed, with their waterways by improving coordination among federal agencies and collaborating with community-led revitalization efforts to improve our Nation's water systems and promote their economic, environmental and social benefits.
