ATLANTA - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced today that it is awarding $250,000
to public housing authorities in Georgia that will be used to address emergency, safety and security needs at their public housing. This includes measures necessary to fight crime and drug related activities.

The following housing authority will receive this funding:

Housing Authority of the City of Columbus

"It is vital that we do everything necessary to protect families that reside in public housing," said, Ed Jennings, Jr. HUD Southeast Region IV Regional Administrator. "These grants will allow public housing authorities to take the necessary safety and security measures to keep families safe."

Nationally, HUD is providing nearly $7.7 million for emergency, safety and security needs through HUD's Capital Fund Program to 35 public housing authorities (PHA) across the U.S. Safety and security emergencies include sudden increases in threat levels that pose a risk to the health and safety of residents due to violent crimes or property related crimes at public housing communities.

Emergency safety and security grants may be used to install, repair, or replace capital needs items including, but
not limited to, security systems/cameras, fencing, lighting systems, emergency alarm systems, window bars,
deadbolt locks and doors.
