Affordable Housing Tax Credit Organization Recognizes Hawaii Public Housing Project as Honorable Mention Winner
At the 19th Annual Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Awards, the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition ("Coalition") announced the Towers at Kuhio Park as the "Honorable Mention" for the Public Housing category. The awards program brings together the affordable housing community to celebrate and honor the best in affordable rental housing developments. The Coalition presented these awards to the most outstanding low-income housing tax credit (housing credit) properties in seven categories. The Coalition received 55 applicants from 25 states and the District of Columbia. The seven award categories included: Metropolitan/Urban Housing, Rural Housing, Special Needs Housing, Senior Housing, Green Housing, Public Housing, and HUD Preservation Properties.
The Towers at Kuhio Park was one vote away from being named "Winner" in the Public Housing category. All the honorees will be recognized at a luncheon ceremony on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. with the Members of Congress on May 22, 2013. The Towers at Kuhio Park is a state housing project that offers public housing, Section 8, low-income housing tax credits, and market-rate rental units to families with a wide variety of incomes. This complex represents a promising public-private partnership and captures HUD's new initiative to address aging public housing projects.
