A Community Partnership That Feeds Kids

Summer Meals for Kids Champion Kapiolani Community College

For kids who may rely on being fed in school, summer may be a hungry time. To help meet the needs of children who may face hunger in the summer, the Honolulu Field Office FPM staff works with Kapiolani Community College's Culinary Arts Department, the Hawaii Department of Education and three local non-profit sponsors: Hawaii Literacy, PACT and EAH Housing.

With this special partnership, healthy meals are delivered directly to three housing properties: Mayor Wright, Towers at Kuhio Park and Kukui Gardens. In 2017 over 8,000 meals were served.

An added benefit is the creation of new partnerships in the community, such as with RSVP Oahu senior volunteers and the Honolulu Police Department who help nourish kids with food, enhance lives and give away school supplies.
