Eastern Woodlands Office of Native American Programs
Holds Annual Grants Training

Preparing to award some $8 million in Community Development Block Grants, the Eastern Woodlands Office of Native American Programs (EWONAP) held its annual training for Native American tribes east of the Mississippi River. The conference was held on November 4 and 5 in the Metcalfe Federal building in Chicago, the base for EWONAP.

Elton Jones, Director of the EWONAP Grants Management Division, anticipates that 25 or 30 tribes will file applications for grants of up to $500,000 maximum. He expects that 12 to 15 tribes will get funding after all applications have been carefully reviewed and ranked in accordance with the competitive process.

The tribes will undertake a variety of development projects including public infra structure improvements, construction of community buildings, senior centers, and housing rehabilitation. The successful grant applicants will undergo grants management training prior to receiving their funds.
