Housing Authority of Bowling Green Initiates Move of Local Library to Better Serve Residents and Community

The Graham Drive Community Library is a thriving resource for the Housing Authority of Bowling Green (HABG) residents and the community. The library offers a wide variety of services to residents to participate in daily. For instance, the library has open computer labs, science activities for youth, yoga and other various activities.

However, without the intervention of HABG Executive Director Abraham Williams, this resource would be a thing of the past. The Warren County Public Library originally began with a branch adjacent to public housing. The branch was underutilized because of the difficulty of Housing Authority of Bowling Green (HABG) residents safely navigating across a busy 4-lane highway. Ultimately, in early 2007, the library closed their doors because the participation had fallen to minimal numbers.

Williams knew what a valuable asset the library could be to the community and HABG residents simply by changing the location. Therefore, he agreed to take a 5-bedroom unit and convert it into a library.

This new location known as Graham Drive Community Library is directly in the HABG Gordon Ave/Summit View developments. The impact of the location change was immediately felt as participation more than tripled - and involvement continues to grow.
