Housing Authority of Bowling Green EnVision Center Celebrates Opening of New Senior Housing

Housing Authority of Bowling Green Executive Director Abraham Williams, HUD Kentucky Field Office Director Peter Jackson, and other partners and stakeholders cut the ribbon for Ft. Webb Manor II senior housing.

Ft. Webb Manor II affordable senior housing is showcased at ribbon cutting ceremony.

More than 50 people recently gathered as Housing Authority of Bowling Green Executive Director Abraham Williams, HUD Field Office Director Peter Jackson and other officials cut the ribbon on the new Fort Webb II senior housing for people 55 and older.

This second phase of Fort Webb housing includes 20 new affordable units, 16 of which are 1-bedroom apartments. The other 4 are 2-bedrooms to help accommodate live-in caretakers. The monthly rent is $555 for a single-bedroom unit and $675 for two-bedroom units.

"We're so blessed to go home to a house we can afford," said Williams. "We have to start looking at people paying 50 percent of their paycheck to housing." HUD Kentucky Field Office Director Peter Jackson praised the Housing Authority of Bowling Green for providing seniors in the community with both beautiful and affordable housing.

"I am honored to be with you today to celebrate this wonderful new phase of Ft. Webb and to recognize the fact that the Housing Authority of Bowling Green has been and continues to be a strong and vibrant partner," said Jackson.

Of the $2.7 million project, HUD contributed $1 million through the Community Development Block Grant program.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Beginning in 1974, the CDBG program is one of the longest continuously run programs at HUD. The CDBG program provides annual grants on a formula basis to 1209 general units of local government and States. Last year, HABG was designated a HUD EnVision Center.
