Local Partnership Produces New Affordable Homes

Newly constructed duplex in Lawrence, MA

A newly constructed duplex is providing homeownership for two low-income families in Lawrence, MA.  This is the fourth duplex to be developed as part of a partnership between Bread & Roses Housing (http://www.brhousing.org) and the Lawrence Housing Authority.

Built on land previously owned by the city of Lawrence and transferred to Bread & Roses at a substantially reduced cost, these two homes will remain affordable and owner-occupied through every sale and re-sale in perpetuity.  The homes were constructed using the highest energy efficiency standards, and it is projected that annual heating costs for each of the three-bedroom homes will be two-thirds lower than a home build according to standard building codes and practices.

HUD is proud to be part of this partnership that utilized Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds and HOME Investment Partnership Program funds.
