HUD AWARDS $217,000 TO THE HOUSING COMMISSION OF ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY TO SUPPORT SAFETY AND SECURITY NEEDS IN PUBLIC HOUSING

PHILADELPHIA - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded today $217,000 to the Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County to address emergency, safety and security needs at its public housing properties, including measures necessary to fight crime and drug activities.

The Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County will use the funding to purchase and install video camera surveillance systems, upgrade security lighting, and install security entrance systems in the Meade Village, Freetown Village, and Pinewood Village developments.

"These much needed resources will be used to help the families living in public housing feel safer and more secure in their communities," said Jane C.W. Vincent, HUD's Regional Administrator of the mid-Atlantic region.

Nationally, HUD is providing $2.9 million to 15 public housing authorities across the U.S. to support emergency, safety and security needs from HUD's Capital Fund Emergency Safety and Security Program. Safety and security emergencies include sudden increases in threat levels that pose a risk to the health and safety of public housing residents due to violent crimes or property-related crimes within the public housing community.

This funding may be used to install, repair, or replace capital needs items, including, but not limited to, security systems/surveillance cameras, fencing, lighting systems, emergency alarm systems, window bars, deadbolt locks and doors.
