HUD Great Plains Regional Administrator Jason Mohr joined Housing Authority of the City of Springfield (HAS) officials for an award ceremony to present over $40,000 to provide a permanent home to veterans experiencing homelessness.

HAS received 10 vouchers through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program which combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by VA. Joplin has previously received HUD-VASH vouchers to support veterans housing across the city. With this latest award, the Joplin Housing Authority now has 34 VASH vouchers. In an April 6 news release HUD announced the award of more than 87,000 vouchers nationwide.

The VA Health Care System of the Ozarks (Fayetteville, AR)/Mount Vernon Community-Based Outpatient Clinic will identify homeless veterans who are eligible for the services and housing vouchers and refer the vets to the housing agency.
