Visitors from Tajikistan

On August 1, 2008, ten representatives from the Republic of Tajikistan and two interpreters met with HUD Jackson field office director, program directors, and single family housing staff to discuss HUD programs. The Field Office Director welcomed the visitors and gave a brief overview of the field office operations and asked the group to describe their purpose and mission for this meeting. The group was made up primarily of architects, city planners, and developers, and they were very interested in the methods used in developing housing, communities, and the funding sources for financing the projects. After each HUD program division provided their overview of programs, the multifamily and public housing directors displayed several sets of project plans for housing developments, including blueprints. After the general session, they broke out into several groups and spent time looking at the blueprints and proposals as the interpreters divided their time between the various groups. The visitors asked many questions and were very pleased to see how the developments went from proposal to completion with the result of providing housing for low to moderate income clients. At the end of their tour in the United States, a representative of the group called to express their thanks and stated that their visit with the Jackson HUD office was the best meeting, and they appreciated what they had learned.
