On August 18-19, 2008, HUD's Advanced Grant Writing Training conducted in Jackson attracted an enthusiastic and eager crowd of 67 participants. The event opened with remarks and logistics from the Jackson Field Office Director, Cassandra Terry.

The participants represented a diverse culture of non-profit agencies throughout Mississippi with a background in basic grant writing experience. They received both theory and practical lessons in advanced grant writing from Fred Washington, a Grant Writing Trainer from HUD's Tampa Field Office. Mr. Washington delivered the training with enthusiasm, conviction, and showed genuine concern that each participant walked away with the skills needed to submit a successful grant application.

As promised, at the end of the training, each participant received a certificate that validated his or her knowledge, skills, and abilities to apply for grants from any federal agency for the purpose of making communities within Mississippi viable and healthy. Participants also commented that this was the best grant writing class that they have ever attended.
