Jackson Housing Authority Holds First Annual Housing Fair

On Wednesday, December 3, 2008, Jackson Housing Authority held its first annual Housing Fair in an effort to reach out to potential first-time homeowners. The event highlighted the opportunities available for Jackson area residents, including government-subsidized grants and local programs that assist home shoppers. In addition, over 75 exhibitors participated from the housing industry, and break-out sessions were held on becoming a first-time homeowner, credit counseling and foreclosure prevention. HUD's involvement included staff from the Jackson Hub Office of Public Housing participating on the organizing committee for the event and manning a booth providing information to potential homeowners on using a housing choice voucher for homeownership, the economics of homeownership, how to recognize a predatory lender, Energy Star, and Fair Housing issues.
