Water Valley Housing Authority located in a rural community in the northeast Mississippi used the American Recovery and Revitalization funds to build a new community center within the heart of a family development. The facility is approximately 1,600 square feet and cost $159,654 to build. The housing authority plans to use this center for education and job growth opportunities. The computer lab will have internet access. This is key to residents who are interested in completing job searches on line. The nearest Win Job Center is approximately 40 minutes away. The housing authority and the Win Job Center are partnering on job outreach and training. The Win Job Center will be providing job readiness classes for residents, computer classes, and GED Courses on site at this new facility. As part of the HUD and Department of Labor partnership, the local Public Housing Office is coordinating with the Employment Security Commission to provide the Win Job search computer application to the housing authorities with computer access for residents.
