On July 26, 2010, approximately 300 community leaders, grant recipients, federal agency representatives and small business owners gathered at the Jackson Convention Complex for the Mississippi Economic Recovery and Procurement Summit. HUD Deputy Secretary Ron Sims discussed ways in which small and minority contractors could access opportunities and resources with the federal government. HUD Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity John Trasvi and Staci Hampton Gilliam discussed obligations and requirements of Section 3. Other speakers included U. S. Congressman Bennie Thompson; Mayor Harvey Johnson, City of Jackson; David Hinson, National Director of the Minority Business Development Agency and Director of GSA. Following the presentations was a business-to-business matchmaking session including minority businesses and the Mississippi Public Housing Authorities, Mississippi Development Authority and entitlement communities in the State of Mississippi.
