The Mississippi HUD office's Multifamily and Community Planning and Development (CPD) staff participated in the Reopening Celebration for the Spring Gardens Apartments, Holly Springs, MS. This 100 unit, Section 8 project based subsidized property was in disrepair and received the lowest score possible on a physical inspection of its units.

After numerous attempts to discover acceptable options, HUD Multifamily and CPD created a strategy to use NSP-1 funds to reclaim these units. The restoration of this property created 241 construction jobs with 24 permanent jobs being created or partially supported. Not only did all levels of government (federal, state, local) work together, but professional competitors were able to form an alliance in this much needed preservation effort.

This rehabilitated apartment complex will provide quality, affordable housing and the means to a brighter future for Holly Springs residents.
