HUD Mississippi team members from Public and Indian Housing joined forces with the Jackson Housing Authority staff to provide information about HUD's VASH voucher program to veterans attending the VA Medical Center's annual Stand Down held on September 22, 2017.

The Stand Down event is a part of the Department of Veterans Affairs' efforts to serve homeless veterans. Federal, state, local government and community agencies that serve the homeless were on hand to provide information on supportive services such as health care, housing, employment services, substance abuse, and other mental health programs.

To HUD team veterans Claude Weathers and Anthony McIntyre, the event was especially close to their hearts. "I have participated in the VA Stand downs for the past four years. As a veteran, I feel obligated to assist homeless veterans because of their unselfish service to our country," said McIntyre.

In Jackson, 300 veterans have a place to call home thanks to HUD VASH vouchers.
