The HUD Mississippi team toured Canton Housing Authority (CHA) innovative housing properties in Canton. Executive Director Stan Beasley and Director of Housing Development, Fannie Brown highlighted Woodcreek Homes, an affordable housing development where CHA collaborated with Mississippi Regional Housing Authority No. VI and other partners for a 60-unit complex. It represents the first time that two public housing agencies in Mississippi have partnered to complete a 9% tax credit project. The development includes 36 new construction, and 24 rehabilitation units that will be available to residents for homeownership, along with housing and credit counseling.

The housing authority leaders also showcased the old Canton High School, completed in 1937 but vacant since 1969, now transformed into 80 housing units, with one, two and three-bedrooms. The development features a fitness, business and educational center, barbecue areas, a fully furnished clubhouse, an indoor basketball court and a playground.
