The Laurel Housing Authority (LHA) is working to educate its residents and the community about the dangers of breast cancer. A parade was held on October 15, 2020, to observe National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Participants included the LHA staff, Mayor Johnny Magee, community partners/agencies, local students, and LHA residents. According to Executive Director Ailrick Young, LHA hosts annual "Pink Up" events to help educate the public about breast cancer and preventive measures. This year, the agency elected to have a parade due to COVID-19.

Charlotte Williams, property manager at Brown Circle Homes and coordinator of the event, said the Breast Cancer Parade allowed LHA to bring awareness to the dangers of breast cancer and to encourage early detection. Said ED Young, "By uniting for this event as a community, we recognize the value of all, how we can work together to make sure everyone has access to education, screening, treatment, support and hope regardless of their circumstances. We are thankful for our residents and community partners who have joined us to support this event." At the conclusion of the parade, LHA officials and the Laurel Family Health Center gave participants pamphlets and information about breast cancer. The event also recognized those who have battled the deadly disease.
