Residents of Gulfport, Mississippi, joined a health fair organized by the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority (MRHA) No. VIII in February. Initially thought for public housing tenants, it became a community event open to all residents, which gave the MS HUD team an opportunity to also invite tenants of multifamily housing. Participants received health check-ups and the opportunity to test and vaccinate against COVID-19. Community partners also offered gardening tips and information on health insurance.

MRHA No. VIII is Mississippi's largest public housing authority, covering 14 counties. Dianco Stallworth, Deputy Executive Director for MRHA No. VIII announced two more health fairs are coming soon to Jackson and Forest Counties. "MRHA VIII is devoted to civic engagement and service in our communities with the assistance of our community partners," said Stallworth. "Our commitment to preventing COVID-19 is investing in the wellbeing of our communities. We look forward to continued partnerships in this effort." Coastal Family Health Center partnered with the housing authority for the Gulfport event that was also attended by Harrison County Commissioner Allytra Perryman.
