HUD to Donate Excess Computers

The Jackson, Mississippi, Field Office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has excess computer equipment available for donation.

Items available and approximate quantities are:

  • Twenty-five (25) Dell computers:133 (64mb/2gb hd), 233 (32mb), 350 (64mb/6.0gb hd) (64mb/4.3gb hd);
  • Thirteen (13) monitors: Dell, Impression, and AOC;
  • Nine (9) HP laserjet/deskjet printers (includes one (1) color printer);
  • Eight (8) Toshiba laptops;
  • One (1) Hayes modem voice data fax;
  • One (1) Conner external tape drive;
  • Two (2) Panasonic CD-Rom players;
  • Two (2) Backpack CD-ROMS;
  • One (1) Microtest cable scanner; and
  • Two (2) Amax Pentium Servers.

In accordance with Executive Order 12999, entitled "Educational Technology: Ensuring Opportunity for All Children in the Next Century," the Jackson Field Office will give the highest priority to elementary/secondary educational institutions, community-based educational organizations and eligible non-profit organizations located in Federal empowerment zones or enterprise communities. Educational institutions, community-based organizations and eligible non-profits outside empowerment zones or enterprise communities will receive the next level priority consideration.

Requests for computer equipment must be in writing and must be accompanied by a statement of need. Requests must also identify the quantity needed. All non-profits, including churches, will be required to submit a copy of their 501(c)(3) IRS ruling as well as their by-laws showing that their primary mission is education. Documentation to support that the institution/organization is located within a Federal empowerment zone or enterprise community is also requested.
