STATEMENT FROM HUD MISSISSIPPI FIELD OFFICE DIRECTOR JERRIE MAGRUDER ON THE PASSING OF MAYOR CHOKWE LUMUMBA
JACKSON, MS - U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Mississippi Field Office Director Jerrie G. Magruder issued the following statement today on the passing of Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba:
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of a true champion for civil rights and affordable housing, Mayor Chokwe Lumumba.
"As Mayor he moved forward to address the needs of Jacksonians by using HUD funds to address critical infrastructure needs. In his short time, he set in place the things necessary to turn the City into a desirable venue for citizens and businesses. His efforts were a catalyst for positive change in the City.
"We will miss Mayor Chokwe Lumumba dearly, and extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and constituents."
