HUD AWARDS $175,000 TO WINONA HOUSING AUTHORITY FOR EMERGENCY IMPROVEMENTS IN ROSE COURT PUBLIC HOUSING

JACKSON, MS - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding a grant of $175,196 to Winona Housing Authority in an effort to keep Rose Court public housing residents safe and secure.

HUD's Capital Fund Emergency Safety and Security Program supports public housing authorities as they address the safety of public housing residents. These grants may be used to install, repair, or replace capital needs items including security systems/surveillance cameras, fencing, lighting systems, emergency alarm systems, window bars, deadbolt locks and doors.

"Rose Court families deserve to feel secure in their own homes," said HUD Mississippi Field Office Director Jerrie G. Magruder. "This grant will help their residents return to an improved and safe environment." Sheila Jackson, HUD's Public Housing Director in Mississippi echoed these sentiments and highlighted the housing authority's proactivity, "The resolve of the housing authority to address these issues by taking the initiative to pursue funding until its successful completion is laudable," said Jackson.

Funds will be used to repair the foundation, plumbing and sewer lines at a duplex at Rose Court Development. The Housing Authority of the City of Winona determined the duplex uninhabitable and applied for the grant.
