On Friday, April 10, 2015, the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Assistant Secretary Gustavo Velasquez delivered the keynote speech at the 12th Annual Fair Housing Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The conference is an annual event sponsored by Legal Aid of North Carolina and the city of Raleigh Fair Housing Hearing Board. Assistant Secretary Velasquez complimented the efforts made by the city to commemorate Fair Housing Month, for its work in civil rights, and for its historical legacy of outstanding work to improve housing conditions in the state.

Velasquez addressed several cases recently settled by the Department and spoke specifically about a case that was investigated in the state of North Carolina. His message reflected on the enactment of Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended, that was passed roughly 47 years ago after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King.
